FOUNDATIONS FOR THE TRADES PRE-APPRENTICESHIP This Project is a collaboration between the Electrical Training Academy and the OhioMeansJobs Centers in Adams, Brown, Pike, and Scioto Counties - Funding is provided by Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) ABOUT THE PROGRAM WHO The Foundations for the Trades Pre-Apprenticeship is a program designed to prepare participants for a successful career in the construction building trades. The Foundations Pre-Apprenticeship will target women, minorities, veterans, and those in recovery. This program will give those individuals an opportunity to find and develop a working skill set that they enjoy, improve their financial situations, give them a sense of pride in the work they are doing, as well as increase the number of qualified women, minorities, and veterans in the construction building trades. WHAT The Foundations for the Trades Pre-Apprenticeship is a no-cost to the individual pre-apprenticeship that will receive general training in construction and specific training in one of three areas of the trades, Electrical, Plumbing & Pipefitting, and Carpentry. WHEN & WHERE Classes will be held at the Electrical Training Academy Training Center (24 Gingersnap Road Portsmouth, OH) and will run two nights a week for 15 weeks total of instruction. The pre-apprenticeship will run in three phases, phase one is Foundations, phase two is Concepts of Construction and phase three is Trade Specific. Individuals that successfully complete phases one and two will then choose which specific trade they would like to pursue. Each phase is a total of 5 weeks. Once phases one, two, and three are complete, participants will complete on-the-job learning experiences.
